Establishing a web presence requires an address (Universal Resource Locator) and an easily recalled domain name i.e. www.joe.com

After the material is put together for a web site, the data is then sent to a web space on a web hosting company server using File Transfer Protocol (ftp)

Therefore, this is what happens when your customer looks for your web site:

• He types in the domain name (URL) into the address window of his browser.
• The browser then seeks out the server that holds the files of the web site.
• Then...Your web site opens in viewer's browser window.
